WRENTHORPE SHOW 2007

After the strange and extreme weather conditions of the past growing season, the organisers of the 28 th Wrenthorpe Show looked forward with some trepidation to last week's event. Tales of crop failures, poor quality plants and blight on the allotment did not bode well for the vegetable classes in particular. However, in the end all was well as Wakefield's amateur horticulturalists tabled some quality plants that gave the 200 or so visitors plenty to see and admire.

It was not only the flowers and vegetables that caught the attention. The committee have always tried to make sure that all sectors of the community are catered for. The sections for Home Made Produce, Arts and Crafts and Photography once again proved a challenge for the judges as they tried to determine which of several good entries in each class should be awarded first prize.

The trophies were presented by Christine Mountain, who has officiated as a judge of the Arts and Crafts Section since the very first Show in 1980, a role she has shared in recent years with this year's judge, Alyson Scarlett. The day ended with an auction to raise money for the Aged Welfare Association.

Two raffle prizes remain unclaimed and the holders of blue ticket numbers 666 and 796 should ring 370865 to make their claim.
