A little about Wrenthorpe.

Wrenthorpe is a community of some two and a half thousand houses, one and a half miles north of the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Wrenthorpe has a population of some 6000 people.

Wrenthorpe Park

Although close to the City, it still retains its village character, surrounded as it is on three sides by green fields and being mainly residential in nature. Its proximity to the M1 and M62, which intersect two miles to the north, mean that it's within easy reach of large cities such as Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford. Despite their closeness, these major roads have no visual or audible impact on residents, despite having several industrial and business parks,

Wrenthorpe is still a pleasant place to live. In particular, a large conservation area on the southern edge of the village, the Alverthorpe and Wrenthorpe Meadows, provides a jealously guarded wildlife, landscape and recreational area.

Shops are scattered around the village rather than being concentrated centrally and include two Post Offices, newsagents, chemist, florist, general stores, a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway/fish and chip shop. There are four public houses and a club. For the sports minded, there is a cricket team, several football teams, including thriving junior sides, badminton and crown green bowling. As will be seen from other parts of this site there are also several thriving community groups in the village.
